The House or Representatives has passed with overwhelming support, 416-2, a Bill to amend the federal Safe Drinking Water Act.  The text of HR 4470, titled the Safe Drinking Water Act Improved Compliance Awareness Act, can be found here.  The bill, if enacted, would require States to immediately notify the public if lead levels in drinking water exceed SDWA action levels.  The bill also strengthens EPA’s oversight roll in collecting and disseminating  information regarding lead exposure and poisoning from public drinking water systems should local or state governments fail to act.
