EPA has made some moves on the Regulatory Reform Effort. On February 24th the President issued an Executive Order (EO 13777) requiring a report by mid-May from each Government department or agency proposing the roll back of unduly burdensome federal regulations. This EO operates in concert with EO 13771 (February 3, 2017) which directs all agencies to repeal two existing regulations for each new regulation issued in FY 2017 and thereafter.
The Administrator has tapped the acting leader of the Policy Office, Samantha Dravis, to serve as the Regulatory Reform Officer and to lead, in tandem with Chief of Staff Ryan Jackson, the EPA Regulatory Reform Task Force.
On April 11, 2017, EPA announced that it would be soliciting public comments on its evaluation of existing regulations per the EO (see News Release, EPA Regulatory Reform Under Way), and on April 13, 2017, EPA issued the Federal Register notice: “Evaluation of Existing Regulations.” EPA will accept public comments until May 15.
The Office of Water (OW) is taking steps to create its list:
- OW is planning to meet with several water associations on April 26, 2017 from 1 – 3 p.m.
- OW is also planning a virtual listening session for the public on May 2, 2017 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
