Corporate EHS Programs Under Increased Scrutiny

Linking to a recent story in Bloomberg chronicling several recent tragic worker fatalities and injuries in the U.S. auto parts manufacturing sector, titled “Inside Alabama’s Auto Jobs Boom: Cheap Wages, Little Training, Crushed Limbs – The South’s manufacturing renaissance comes with a heavy price. 

Reports like this reinforce that “government oversight” is not the only light that can be shined on corporate EHS compliance efforts.  The press, as well as environmental and worker safety groups, will continue to focus on areas of corporate EHS governance and performance, particularly in the current Trump Administration where there is a strong push for deregulation.

Companies that ignore this set of eyes may be doing so at their own peril and reputational risk – while also inviting government enforcement scrutiny on their operations.
